I loved drawing this cute fat frog and seeing it come to life. I drew this Oct. 2019
I didn’t have any social media or desire to share my art when I took this, and thats why the lighting is so bad. I always take photos of my art to get “fresh eyes” to check to see if everything looks right. Some people use a mirror to do this but for me a photo works so much better to help me spot mistakes.
I try to get a layer of pencil in to get a sense of value and to have something to build on.
I had no idea how to make the frog skin look wet I tried a few things and found erasing and using a white gel pen worked best.
The frog had so many skin textures so I had to keep switching up how I was layering the pencil. I will draw the darkest spots with a 6b pencil then work my way back down to a 4h and 2h to make the skin look solid and textured.
These fingers were so hard to me. There was water and light reflecting back up to the bottom of the hand, dirt and so much skin details. It was hard not get lost and overwhelmed by the details. I tried to go a section at a time and one detail at a time.
I was so excited about how this drawing came out. I was actually surprised and so thankful that God would allow me to draw and enjoy it so much. I’m self taught so I prayed and asked God to help me know how to draw the details and make it look realistic. It was such an enjoyable experience.
Here is the picture all framed and hanging in my home. It’s probably my kids favorite picture I have drawn so far.
