Custom color pencil portrait
Framed and Matted
Original photo
I usually start by tracing, drawing and sketching the basic shapes with my 2h graphite pencil. I did the faces first in this drawing because it was my very first color portrait with two subjects. I wanted to make sure both faces were accurate before I moved onto clothing and background. There was a strong shadow on the older boys chin in the original photo so I just lightened that a lot when I drew it because I felt it would look better.
I stuck with finishing the skin tones as I already had those pencils out. Then I moved onto clothing.
I had no idea how to create the texture of the shirt with color pencil so it was some trial and error but I was very happy with the result.
All framed and matted. I was so happy to deliver this drawing to some wonderful people. -Jenny Lachance
